Cholesterol and Krill Oil

My wife started all of us on Krill Oil a few months ago.  It is easier for Ashleigh to take and seems to have less side effects than the fish oil we had tried in the past.  Ashleigh recently got her blood work done and her cholesterol was significantly down. The Krill Oil was the only change so needless to say we have become fans.  We will be interested in seeing if the positive results continue over the next few months until she gets her labs re-tested.

Below is a snippet from the Krill Oil supplement’s web site describing their product.  We can only share our results and we don’t endorse any specific product or provide medical advice.  Please make sure you advise your doctor of any supplements you take as they can impact other medications.

Krill Oil –

Neptune krill oil (NKO) is a dietary supplement rich in omega-3 fatty acids that comes from a small crustacean that is similar to shrimp, a species of krill called Euphausia superba. These krill are harvested from Antarctic fishing zones and North Pacific oceans. Krill are the primary source of food for whales – ‘krill’ is a Norwegian word that means ‘whale food’.

Health Benefits of Krill Oil

Krill oil offers many important nutritional benefits. It contains potent antioxidants which offer excellent cell protection benefits. Antioxidants have been linked to rejuvenation of the body and reducing the signs of aging, such as wrinkles.

Some research has indicated that krill oil may be helpful in protecting skin from ultraviolet (UV) light and the damage induced by it by fortifying cell membranes. This is largely due to the presence of the antioxidant, astaxanthin.

Krill oil also can help to improve cognitive functions like memory and help keep the mind quick and active into old age.

It may also be helpful in reducing inflammation and pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions and diseases, treating the symptoms associated with PMS and dysmenorrhea and suppressing autoimmune murine lupus. Improvements in the health of various organs in the body, including the heart, brain and liver have been noted in individuals who supplement with krill oil.

Hello from Australia! I support my husband, Ivon, who had an accident 6 yrs ago & has a TBI. I was interested to read your site & I offer you all the best to you and the family – and to Ashleigh. I loved reading your posts – they bring inspiration all the way across the oceans!

A question – Ivon has had terribly low choloestral (his good one is low, bad is ok) – and I have struggled to find a specialist that understands whether his injuries have impacted this. He is on the right diet / supplements but I was really interested to understand if Ashleigh had the same issue – i.e. too low good cholesterol.

Anyway, just a qn …Thanks for the site!
    Christine
